The Team


David Gould

Founder, Chief Executive Officer

David brings 20 years of senior management, entrepreneurial, and finance experience to mShopper. He previously worked at Virgin Mobile USA where he managed that Company's Mobile Content activities. The Virgin Mobile group generated more than $60 million per annum in 2004 revenues. Prior to Virgin Mobile, David helped launch Sundari, LLC, Christy Turlington's Ayurvedic skin care company, and ZelnickMedia, Strauss Zelnick's (the former CEO of BMG North America Entertainment) latest media venture. Prior to these, David spent five years as Chairman and CEO of Imix.com, Inc., the Internet's then leading wholesaler of personalized entertainment content. At its peak, Imix employed more than 60 persons, executed more than 250 license agreements covering more than 200,000 song titles, powered more than 150 web sites, and generated several million in annual revenues. Prominent Imix shareholders included BMG Entertainment, Sony Music Entertainment, Clear Channel Communications, and Hicks, Muse, Tate and Furst. Previously, he co-founded The Apogee Finance Group, which specialized in packaging and arranging asset-based financings. Prior to Apogee, David managed the structured finance department at Irving Leasing Corporation, where he coordinated all departmental activities relating to the packaging and arranging of aircraft and other off-balance sheet financing activities. David received an MBA with distinction from Harvard Business School and a B.A. in Economics from Colgate University. He is a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and is an active volunteer for New York's Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.


Dev Bhatia

Chief Revenue Officer

Dev Bhatia is a startup and growth-stage executive with a track record of success in internet advertising, content and analytic software. He has grown three different start-ups to multi-million dollar revenues through aggressive sales and business development. He has raised more than $30 million in venture funding for his startups. Among his previous successes are Screaming Media, where he wrote the business plan and helped raise initial funding for a company which later went public. He was VP, Brand Management at Yoyodyne, a web advertising pioneer. Yoyodyne was the early purveyor of Web-based "Permission Marketing", and was the leading direct marketing and promotions firm on the Web prior to its sale to Yahoo! in Q4 1998. Dev led the Company's and the Web's largest promotions. These included "Get Rich Click", which in 1997 and 1998 was the Web’s largest promotion and largest opt-in database of more than a million unique participants. He later founded HotSocket, a web marketing/sales firm whose clients included AT&T, Chase, Discover, DoubleDay, Earthlink, FirstUSA, Sprint, Verizon and many others and whose strategic partners included Acxiom, Experian, VNU/Claritas and Excite/MatchLogic. Dev has an MBA from Columbia Business School and is a graduate of Yale College. Dev’s passion is to build great companies which are change agents in their industries. He's now in love with mobile commerce, because he thinks it's going to be the next proving ground for really great marketers!


Dave Skinner

VP of Engineering and Operations

Dave leads the Product Management, Engineering, Operations and Customer Care functions of the company, with the mandate to rapidly mature mShopper's technology and service delivery functions to meet opportunities in the fast-growing mobile commerce market. Dave has spent more than 30 years in engineering, architecture, technology and operations in the computer and telecommunication industries. Dave served as VP of Engineering at LeftHand Networks, then an early-stage storage systems start-up that is now the leader in iSCSI SAN storage solutions. While at LeftHand, he initiated major changes in engineering processes and organization that resulted in dramatically shorter product release cycles, higher product quality, and enhanced customer satisfaction. Prior to LeftHand, he served as a senior architect at Sun Microsystems after it acquired Redcape Software, where he was the co-founder and CTO. At Redcape, Dave created and productized the concept of policy-based storage management, which later became the Sun Jiro (TM) platform. In previous positions, he served as CTO at Fujitsu ASG and also held various senior engineering and management positions at StorageTek. Dave is a long-time member of both the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), and has served as the chair of several IEEE standards committees. He has a BSEE from the University of Colorado at Boulder and has completed graduate courses at both CU and UCLA in electromagnetics, computer science and telecommunications.


Alec Karys

Chief Technology Officer

Alec has over 25 years of experience as an entrepreneur, technical team manager and consultant at (1) Amazon.com, where he was Senior Software Manager responsible for all technical aspects of the Amazon Affiliates Program which had revenue of over $1 billion and over 1.2 million members; (2) Synapse Ventures Group, a provider of consulting services to early stage technology companies, where he was Co-Founder and CEO; (3) Cognate Technologies, an E-Learning company based on patent pending technology from MIT research, where he was CEO; and (4) various other technology and services companies where he held senior management roles such as at Authorisz (NASDAQ: AUTH), InterQual (now a unit of McKesson) and Data General Corporation. Alec received his MBA and Electrical Engineering degrees from Northeastern University and attended the Engineering Executive Program at Stanford University.

Heidi Cuppari

VP Merchant Services

Heidi brings a wealth of experience to this role, having spent her professional career building and growing companies. Recently, she started and ran a consumer products company and grew distribution from zero to six hundred stores in one year. Prior to joining mShopper, Heidi directed the fundraising and investor relations department for Acumen Fund, a venture fund which focuses on delivering goods and services to people in developing countries. Her department raised over $8 million in one calendar year. Heidi is an alumna of Brown University, which inspired her to make a difference in the world. Helping people learn how to give to charity through the success of 2B.org is one of her most cherished dreams.


Drew Esson

VP Product Management

Drew Esson brings 15 years of product management and systems integration experience in the telecommunications and wireless industry to mShopper. Most recently Drew directed the product management of Openwave Systems’ Location Product group and played a key role in the evolution of location services from a start-up niche industry to a widely deployed capability in wireless networks. He has extensive experience in building and deploying highly complex systems and has worked with wireless operators and application developers around the world. Drew has an MBA from the University of Colorado and is a graduate of Princeton University. Drew looks forward to building a suite of mShopper products that will revolutionize the mobile commerce industry.


Peter Giblin

VP International Business Development

Peter started his career in the film world as a slave for Merchant Ivory Productions, assisting the producer, director, editor, actors and heads of department on "Remains of the Day", nominated for 9 Oscars. Peter went on the co-produce the critically-acclaimed "The Broken Giant" and a number of short films, including "Tree Shade" which won an Oscar. Peter then switched to producing technology conferences with Silicon Alley Reporter in New York and Los Angeles in the late 1990's. These included the Rising Tide Summit series, described in the New York Times as the TED of the East Coast. Peter went on to co-create and produce conferences on a range of subjects: from corporate social responsibility to residential architecture and interiors to the Disinfo.con 2000. Peter was also co-creator and producer of the Los Angeles-based Invisible College, is a founder member of the Proscenium Club (creating a more vital and participatory relationship between the young Los Angeles creative and professional communities and the Music Center through social, cultural and artistic events) and a committee member of FreshstArt (an arts-based charity supporting disadvantaged kids). Peter received a B.A. in American Studies from Yale University.


Matt Harris

VP Sales

Retail veteran Matt Harris, after graduating from University of Colorado, became a key player in helping to build a nine store specialty retailer into a 300 store mega chain. After assuming key leadership roles as National Sales Manager & General Manager, where he drove sales from $40 to $60 million in 15 months, he was bumped up to the near billion dollar corporate parent to serve on the Marketing Steering Committee, and become the Director of Consumer Finance, and Director of E-Commerce. A nationally ranked tennis and table tennis player, he resides in Littleton, Colorado with his lovely bride of 22 years and actively supports the University of Colorado Leeds School of Business where both his children attend.
